Roy Heatherly has 39 years of multimedia experience with expertise in advertising, marketing, and digital sales. Roy earned a B.S. degree in Journalism from the University of Kansas then began his career as a sales representative for KKOY radio in Chanute, KS. He continued his sales career as a sales representative at the Chattanooga Free Press and as the Marketing Director at The Jackson Sun in Jackson, TN. He was promoted to Advertising Director at The Jackson Sun and later served as Advertising Director at The News-Star in Monroe, LA. Roy returned to The Jackson Sun to serve as President and Publisher. While working at The Jackson Sun and The News-Star, Roy received Gannett’s prestigious President’s Ring for outstanding performance twice. He was most recently the President and Publisher of The Wichita Eagle and kansas.com.
Roy served in numerous community leadership positions including serving as a board member of The West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation and as board chair for The United Way of West Tennessee and The Jackson, Tennessee Area Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, he has served on numerous boards in Monroe, Louisiana, Jackson, Tennessee, and Wichita, Kansas. He currently serves on the board of the William Allen White Foundation at the University of Kansas. Roy was named Humanitarian of the Year in 2014 by The American Red Cross in Jackson, Tennessee and received the 2011 Jackson Award from The West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation. Roy delivered the Spring commencement speech for the 2009 graduating class of the University of Tennessee at Martin and gave the 2012 Spring commencement speech for Jackson State Community College.
Roy has been married to Beth Garland Heatherly for 35 years. They have 3 wonderful children and 3 equally wonderful grandchildren. He currently is Vice President of Speedupshare.com and Secretary of ObituaryShare.com.
