Mrs. Welch, age 92, passed away Saturday, June 26, 2021, at Bells Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Bells, Tennessee.  She was born on September 12, 1928, to William Henry Vinson and Paralee Dillard Vinson.

Lucy was a faithful member of Sherman Baptist Church until moving to Jackson, Tennessee, to be close to her children. She then moved her membership to Hillcrest Baptist Church, where her husband, James E. Welch, pastored for many years and where her son presently serves as pastor.

Lucy was a kind and selfless woman who was loved by so many people. She was an admired and respected pastor’s wife, a mighty prayer warrior, and a faithful friend. To her family she was more than words can express.

Mrs. Welch is survived by three children: daughter, Sharon Murphy (Larry) of Three Way, TN, and twin sons, Jim Welch (Carol) of Vidalia, GA and Dr. Jerry Welch (Debbie) of Jackson, TN.  She was blessed with five grandchildren: Lauren Massey (A.J.), Stephen Welch (Shana), Alex Welch (Hannah), Emily Dotson (Chris), and Tyler Welch. Mrs. Welch also cherished her eleven great-grandchildren. She is survived by her brother, William “Bill” Vinson of Jackson, TN, as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Welch was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 52 years, James E. Welch. She came from a large family of twelve children. She was preceded in death by five brothers: Richard Vinson (Mildred), A.D. Vinson (Mae), Woodrow Vinson (Kernith), Raymond Vinson (Mamie), and infant brother Leon Vinson. Five sisters preceded her in death: Bessie Grant (Fletcher), Ruby Tollison (William), Hazel Roberts (John), Jean Lessel (Mitchell), and infant sister Ernestine Vinson. A dear sister-in-law, Linda Vinson, also preceded her in death.

Pall bearers for Mrs. Welch will be Alex Welch, Tyler Welch, A.J. Massey, Tom Tindall, Fred Vinson, and Terry Wood.

Mrs. Welch’s children would like to thank the Alexandria Place Assisted Living staff for their love and care for the past two years. A huge thank you also goes to the Bells Rehabilitation and Nursing Home staff and Dr. Wayne Rhear for the care Lucy received the last three months of her life.
