
Services for Vernet Mary Romero Laperouse, 94, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Monsignor Keith Derouen and Reverend Father Gary Schexnayder officiating. Stephen Thomas Laperouse and Keith Edmond Laperouse will deliver the eulogy at 9:45 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery.
Visitation will be at 8:45 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church until time of services.
A native of Loez, she moved to New Iberia as a young girl. She was married to her loving husband of over 50 years, Valery Edmond “Brother” Laperouse Jr. Together they raised six children.
She is survived by said children: Myra Anne Laperouse Broussard of Crowley; Keith Edmond Laperouse of New Iberia, married to Lonette Foote Laperouse; Lambert Mark Laperouse Sr. of Mandeville, married to Ann Heatherly Laperouse; Stephen Thomas Laperouse of Houston, married to Betty Broussard Laperouse; Adrienne Marie Laperouse Barousse of Lafayette, married to Mac Barousse; and Julie Claire Laperouse Cordell of Alexandria, Virginia, married to Ruffin Cordell; along with eighteen grand-children and twenty-three great grand-children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Valery Edmond Laperouse Jr.; her parents, Raphael Romero and Regina Comeaux Romero; her brother Aaron Romero; her sisters Mina Romero Fremin and Calley Romero Dugas; and her son in law Patrick L. Broussard.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Lambert Mark Laperouse, Jr., Paul Edmond Laperouse, Alexandre Galaup Laperouse, Christopher Keith Laperouse, Peter Edmond Laperouse, Bradford Thomas Laperouse, Charles Barousse, Blake Barousse, Jack Cordell and honorary pallbearer John Edward Fremin.
Giftbearers are Mary Elizabeth Fahey, Julie Allison Steigleder, Anne Louise Cormada, Heather Laperouse Speizman, Ashley Meredith Laperouse, Elizabeth Laperouse Gilcrease, Elise Barousse Guidry, Corrine Adrienne Cordell and Madeline Leah Cordell.
Her children are most grateful for the love and support given to their mother by her caregivers through the years.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to CHS/MCA of New Iberia in their centennial year; Hospice of Acadiana or charity of your choice.
