Staff Sergeant William Austin “Bill” Griffin, age 85, departed this life on Sunday, April 23, 2023, in Jackson, TN.

Born in Philadelphia, PA on May 3, 1937, he was the son of the late Laurence and Margaret McGuire Griffin. He attended West Catholic High School in Philadelphia, PA, then joined the United States Army where he faithfully served for 20 years as Bridge Crewman and Combat Engineer. He served two tours in Vietnam with the 1st Infantry Division (Big Red One). He received many awards and decorations during his service including National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal 6th Award, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, and 4 Overseas Bars.

After the Army, Bill worked as an ATM Service Tech with Die Bold Security Company until his retirement. He enjoyed living abroad in Germany and Africa and was an avid historian and collector of military prints. Bill was also a citizen of Ireland.

A member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, there are many people that loved Bill. He was overly generous and received great pleasure in giving to others.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Laurence Griffin, Peggy Ann Griffin, Hugh Griffin, and Joseph Griffin.

He is survived by his wife, Krystyna Regin Griffin, son, Jack Griffin, sister, Kathleen Hernandez, brother, James Griffin, and several nieces and nephews.

SERVICE: The funeral mass for Staff Sergeant Griffin will be held Friday, April 28, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St.  Mary’s Catholic Church. Rosary will be said at 10:30 a.m. Burial with military honors will be at 1:30 p.m. at the West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery at Parkers Crossroads.
